Valentines Day, and the repercussions.

Life is not fair.
In life, there are those who have more, get more, and are more attractive. This is a given.  This is something we all begin to realize as we grow up.
In school today,  kids start figuring out the haves and have nots more and more, and especially when they hit the late elementary,  junior high, and high school years.
These kids are vulnerable. These kids are impressionable. These kids are fragile.

I believe we need to examine everything we do in school, and wonder if some of the activities are worth the benefits.

Competition is important. There is no doubt. However, exclusion should NEVER be encouraged in a school environment. In a school environment,  inclusion should be the main focus in most everything we do.

My example here is on Valentine's Day.
Let's not kid ourselves. This is a day for couples.  Yes, we love our friends and family, but don't be naive.  It is singles awareness day.

Why do we promote this during school?  What is the purpose? Why do we sell roses and watch the haves give to the haves and have nots sit and watch?

Is this a distraction? Is this an exclusionary activity?  Is this a self esteem builder for few and an esteem crusher for most?

Hell yes!

This happens before and after school anyway, for the haves and haves nots.

It has NO purpose in the public school.
